A Polytex K190 DB dust extraction unit recently installed at the Barrow-on-Soar factory is providing a clean, dust free atmosphere in two adjacent areas used for packaging powdered sports and nutrition drinks. Haldane, which also packs a large range of dry ready meals for a number of leading highstreet brands, ordered the extraction equipment from Thorne to replace a wall mounted fan extractor which simply vented excess dust to the exterior.
The Polytex unit, mounted outside the packaging room, came complete with stainless steel food grade ducting, also designed and installed by J.B.Thorne. Because of their relatively small footprint, Polytex units of various sizes and extraction capacities may sited in even restricted areas, both inside and outside. And also for very demanding food industry applications, the unit itself is also offered in a stainless steel option.
Polytex units work by collecting dust at source, drawing it through ducting by a powerful fan and trapping it in the filter bag system. With an extra top-mounted high efficiency particle arrestor (HEPA), a total system operating efficiency of 99.997% is claimed. Because the system is so efficient, cleaned air may be vented back into the working area if desired, as an energy saving measure. In a multiple installation covering several work-stations, units may be switched on individually, bringing further energy-efficiency. All units in the new Polytex range may be specified with an optional automatic explosion detection and suppression system.
Thorne will advise on and carry out installations of all sizes, from single units to turnkey projects. It supplies and fits all ancillary equipment such as ducting, and is also qualified to give advise on the latest COSHH requirements. The company gives full and prompt after sales service, and will undertake mandatory testing on all dust extraction-equipment where this is required.
