The original Mathmos lava lamps are once again all the rage, and it's Morrisflex finishing machinery teamed with dust extraction equipment from J.B.Thorne of Leicester which is giving the final finish to the lamps' aluminium components.
The Morrisflex equipment is a 4-head, 6-station automatic polisher/satiniser, with extraction of aluminium dust by a Thorne Monflam 220 wet extractor. Thorne also designed and installed ducting to the four heads of the Morrisflex unit. Mathmos, which nov exports 60 per cent of its lamps worldwide, is experiencing huge year-on-year growth rates and is projecting production of 800 000 units for 1998. It will shortly be adding more equipment from both J.B.Thorne and Morrisflex to cope with continuing expansion.
Nonflam collectors are a highly effective dust removal system, using a water-filled tank through which dust and residues are drawn by an impellor fan. Particles sink to the base of the collection tank, where they may be easily removed by raking into a container. Automatic sludge removal systems are also available. Water level in the unit, from a simple connection to the mains supply, is automatically controlled.
Equipment such as Nonflam dust extractors is mandatory where where explosive dusts from materials like aluminium, titanium and magnesium are involved. Thorne now offers its Nonflam units with a range of fans precisely rated for individual applications up to 15Kw in cases where it is necessary to remove sticky or oily dust from the metal being treated.
