The St Austell based division of Svedala, international leader in equipment and systems for mineral processing, crushing and screening, has installed a Nonflam W260 from J.B.Thorne to cope with metal dust and particles from two new fettling booths. Another Nonflam W260 is on order for delivery as soon as a further two new booths have been installed.
Svedala's St Austell casting operation produce wear components for slurry and gravel pumps as well as parts for rock crushing and screening equipment. Very hard white irons with a high chromium content are the main material involved, as well as softer irons, among the many metals for which Nonflam wet dust extractors are specifically designed.
Nonflam units are a simple but highly effective and well proven dust removal system. They are available with a range of fans precisely rated for individual applications - up to 30Kw using various combinations of fans, in cases where it is necessary to remove sticky or oily dust from the metal being treated.
Nonflams use a water-filled tank through which dust-laden air is drawn by an impellor fan. A carefully designed baffle system generates a powerful spray action, and contaminant particles are entrapped by the water droplets. The particles sink to the base of the collection tank, where they may be easily removed by raking into a container through large access doors. Automatic sludge removal systems are also available.
Water level in the unit, from a simple connection to the mains supply, is automatically controlled. Equipment such as Nonflam dust extractors are mandatory where explosive dusts from aluminium, titanium and magnesium are involved.
Available in a variety of sizes, they may be sited at any distance from the work station, both inside and outside. They are virtually maintenance-free, sound-silenced to 81-83dba, or 78dba if required, and equipped with an explosion-relief facility as required under current regulations.
Normally available in mild steel with hammer enamel finish, Nonflam units may also be specified in GRP or stainless steel when operating in conditions of high water acidity.
Thorne also supplies all ducting necessary and provides a full installation service, with relevant advice on the latest COSHH requirements.
